FAQs
Find quick answers to the most common questions about the Solar Programme, installation, pricing, and how everything works.
Although every home is unique, many households can benefit from adding solar panels and battery storage.
During the design stage, your engineer will assess:
-
Roof space and condition
-
Shading and orientation
-
The best panel placement for performance
-
Ease of access for installation
-
Where your supporting tech and equipment will be located
They’ll also review your energy usage and provide independently verified savings estimates. Generally, the higher your energy consumption, the bigger the potential reduction in your monthly bills.
-
You can choose your plan term, from 5 to 25 years.
Our lowest price plan gives you hassle-free power generation for 25 years, with no additional costs if the panels, inverter or battery need repairing or replacing. If you prefer, you can choose a shorter term before signing your agreement.
You can end your plan at any time by paying the settlement amount in your agreement, with no quibbles or penalties.
Once you’ve received your quote, we’ll send you a personal link to apply. The secure application takes just 2 minutes, won’t affect your credit score, and gives you an instant decision in most cases. There’s no pressure – you’re free to proceed only if you’re happy.
We work with leading installers to offer top-quality systems tailored to your property and energy needs. During your design process with a Home Energy Consultant, they will provide all the specs and energy-saving estimates you need to make an informed decision.
There’s a 14 day cooling-off period after signing your agreement, during which you can change your mind and cancel your agreement with no payment due. Once your system has been installed, you can end your plan at any time by paying the settlement amount outlined in your agreement, with no quibbles or penalties. The monitoring, maintenance, repair and replacement service provided by Hometree Finance will end, and no further payments will be due.
As soon as your solar system is installed, you own it — so there’s no barrier to moving home.
Installing solar panels and battery storage can also increase the value of your home. Solar typically boosts your EPC rating by at least one grade, which often raises property value. Rightmove’s 2023 research found this could add up to 3%.
If you decide to move, you have two main options:
1. Transfer your Solar Programme plan to the new homeowner
This is a common option with similar solar subscription models worldwide. If you’re planning to move, just let the installer know early. They will help manage the transfer with your prospective buyer.
Note: the new homeowner will need to pass eligibility checks.2. Add the remaining system cost to your property sale price
You can include the value of your remaining balance in your asking price. This allows you to settle the plan in full when you sell — with no early repayment fees.
The new homeowner would then own the system outright, with no ongoing contract, which can be a major selling point. To be eligible for the solar programme, you need to be:
-
a UK resident
-
an owner of the property where you want to install
-
able to afford the regular repayments, which we assess with a soft credit check
-
aged 18–65
Two people can make a joint application for the solar programme, as long as at least one of them meets the criteria above. The second applicant can be a friend or family, and doesn’t need to live at the property.
